The E-letter for September 6th

Here’s some church news for you that might impact your life ________________________________________ This week’s message: “Come and See” from John 1:35-42 This is a huge weekend for Indianapolis when it comes to sports. Friday night is all about the high school football games taking place throughout the state. Saturday means college football games with thousands of fans gathering in stadiums to cheer on their team. Sunday the Colts kick off their season with a game against the Bengals from Cincinnati. This weekend Indianapolis is hosting racing fans from across the country who will pour into the Speedway to watch several NASCAR races. They even have a dirt track set up inside the complex for a special race. Sports fans will be going crazy with these events and many more that I failed to mention. People will be spending tons of money on tickets, parking, concessions, and memorabilia items. Fans are an important part of the equation when talking about sports. Without fans; it’s hard to support the players and teams. Would you consider yourself a fan of the Colts, Pacers, or Indians? Do you have a favorite driver to cheer on this weekend? Will you be attending a sporting event this weekend or will you be glued to the television? Are you a fan of Jesus Christ? That seems like a no brainer for some of us, but that’s a legitimate question that must be asked. Chair 1 for Dann Spader is for the fan of Christianity. Jesus invited his first admires to come and see. Andrew and Philip would become disciples later, but first they were fans of Jesus. They wanted to see what the rabbi was up to and why John was calling him the Lamb of God. This Sunday morning, we are going to look at what it means to be a fan of Jesus Christ. Our scripture text will have us look at those first encounters for Andrew and Philip. I want to invite you to come and see what chair one has to offer. Invite someone to come and see where we are at in our spiritual journey with the Lord. We love fans here at Cumberland.
