Becoming Irresistible

January 2019

One of the qualities that I discovered about Jesus while studying the scriptures is that he was irresistible.  No matter where he went or what he did, people would flock to him.  People could not get enough of him; even his enemies kept coming out to him.  What if the church became irresistible like Jesus?  This is something that we are going to consider in 2019 as we look to God’s word for inspiration.  Join us in our quest to become an irresistible community of believers who are seeking to impact lives for God.

Irresistible Worship Experiences
"Becoming Irresistible ".One day Jesus was sitting beside a watering hole when he struck up a conversation with a woman who had come to get some fresh water.  Their conversation quickly turned from water to worship as they talked.   People want to experience God's presence when they come to church

    Becoming Irresistible
"Becoming Irresistible". What does it look like to be considered irresistible?  One of the thoughts that came out of studying the life of Jesus was his irresistible nature.  People flocked to him all the time throughout his ministry.  What if we were to become an irresistible community of believers?

"The Big Event".David had a lot for which to praise God and that is why he wrote many of the Psalms which are included in our Bibles.  In Psalm 145, we can find four characteristics of God for which we can lift up our praise today.

"The Big Event: Planning for Jesus"  Every year it is the same routine: what do we get our in-laws for Christmas?  Mary and Joseph were not looking for Christmas presents when Jesus was born; but the wise men brought three gifts for the baby Jesus.

    Choosing the Location
"Celebrating Jesus: The coming Savior"  Choosing the location for a big event can be challenging for some of us.  Where do we hold our wedding, anniversary celebration, or birthday party?  This was not an issue for Mary and Joseph when it came to the birthplace of Jesus..

"Thanksgiving: We are Blessed and Grateful"  Two words can make all the difference in the world. “Thank you” should be a part of our vocabulary as we have been blessed many times. Today, we honor our Veterans by saying thanks for their service. Jesus wondered why more were not grateful for what had been done. Let’s look at the story of the ten lepers found in Luke 17.

"Invite Your One". This morning, we are going to look at a passage of scripture from Matthew chapter five. Jesus shared these words with a large group of people who gathered around him on a hillside. These words of Jesus spoke volumes to those listening back then, but also serve as inspiration for us today as individuals seeking to become more like Jesus.

    We Have A Great Responsibility
"Invite Your One".  Are there responsibilities that we have when it comes to belonging to a church?  Let's think about ours to encourage others to come with us to worship. Jesus has given us a community that needs salvation. We are his witnesses to the world today.

    We Desire A Greater Church
"Invite Your One"  There are times in our life when we become satisfied with the status quo. Things appear to be humming along and it's comfortable. This can be a real challenge for the church because we slip into this reality without even noticing it.

Your One is an opportunity for us to introduce people to the church. God is giving us an excellent opportunity to encourage people to join us on this spiritual journey. Let's look at what Jesus said to the disciples in the upper room as he prepared to head off to the cross and we consider how to invite people to church.

"Where Are You Sitting" - With the fall season comes the end of the harvest for most crops.  Lots of individuals enjoy going out to the orchard to pick a bushel of apples.  Jesus chose twelve men to become his disciples.  In John chapter 15, we see eleven of these individuals will become a friend to Jesus.  We will look at how we can become one of His friends.

The E-letter for September 6th

Here’s some church news for you that might impact your life ________________________________________ This week’s message: “Come and See” from John 1:35-42 This is a huge weekend for Indianapolis when it comes to sports. Friday night is all about the high school football games taking place throughout the state. Saturday means college football games with thousands of fans gathering in stadiums to cheer on their team. Sunday the Colts kick off their season with a game against the Bengals from Cincinnati. This weekend Indianapolis is hosting racing fans from across the country who will pour into the Speedway to watch several NASCAR races. They even have a dirt track set up inside the complex for a special race. Sports fans will be going crazy with these events and many more that I failed to mention. People will be spending tons of money on tickets, parking, concessions, and memorabilia items. Fans are an important part of the equation when talking about sports. Without fans; it’s hard to support the players and teams. Would you consider yourself a fan of the Colts, Pacers, or Indians? Do you have a favorite driver to cheer on this weekend? Will you be attending a sporting event this weekend or will you be glued to the television? Are you a fan of Jesus Christ? That seems like a no brainer for some of us, but that’s a legitimate question that must be asked. Chair 1 for Dann Spader is for the fan of Christianity. Jesus invited his first admires to come and see. Andrew and Philip would become disciples later, but first they were fans of Jesus. They wanted to see what the rabbi was up to and why John was calling him the Lamb of God. This Sunday morning, we are going to look at what it means to be a fan of Jesus Christ. Our scripture text will have us look at those first encounters for Andrew and Philip. I want to invite you to come and see what chair one has to offer. Invite someone to come and see where we are at in our spiritual journey with the Lord. We love fans here at Cumberland.
