Building Faithfulness

September 2019

Stories from the Old Testament

Being faithful to someone or something is a concept that can be challenging at times.  Many people like to say that the next generation has an issue with making commitments.  While that may be true for some; many are looking for causes that are worthy of their loyalty.  God has certainly been faithful to us; even when we were unable to realize that truth.  During this series of messages, we will look at some ways that we can produce the seventh fruit of the Spirit which is faithfulness.  Join us on a journey through the Old Testament as we look at some passages of scripture that give us some insights on this valuable subject.

An Empty Chair
"An Empty Chair" David and Jonathan were the best of friends, but many could ask why. These two men should have been enemies, but the Lord brought them together as friends. Life is better when you have true friends at your side. This morning, we will look at what it takes to become true friends.

    God’s Faithfulness
"God's Faithfulness". The foundation of a house is vital to the integrity of the structure. When it comes to Christianity, God's faithfulness is our solid foundation upon which we can build our faith. This simple, short Psalm offers a powerful message on the faithfulness of our God. Many today need a reminder that our God's faithfulness will endure forever.

    Some Will Shine Brightly
"Some Will Shine Brightly". One of the joys of owning a classic car is the ability to drive it around town. Heads will turn when your car looks like a real beauty. The same applies to the individual who maintains goodness in this world. People will notice something unique and special about that person. Mordecai will be honored for doing the right thing in our text today.

    Many Will Speak Up
"Many Will Speak Up". Classic cars that are well maintained have a certain glow about them that attracts the attention of those passing by. When we maintain our goodness in the Lord, we can have the same impact on those who see us out and about. This morning, we will look at another chapter in the life of Mordecai.

    The Art of Blessing
Many times during Jesus' ministry, he used farming illustrations to help people understand his message. Psalm 67 is among a group of songs written about the harvest. In this Psalm we read about the desire which existed to see the whole world come to know about God. One way to show kindness to others is through the blessings we share with them. Let's look at the art of blessing others this morning.

The E-letter for September 6th

Here’s some church news for you that might impact your life ________________________________________ This week’s message: “Come and See” from John 1:35-42 This is a huge weekend for Indianapolis when it comes to sports. Friday night is all about the high school football games taking place throughout the state. Saturday means college football games with thousands of fans gathering in stadiums to cheer on their team. Sunday the Colts kick off their season with a game against the Bengals from Cincinnati. This weekend Indianapolis is hosting racing fans from across the country who will pour into the Speedway to watch several NASCAR races. They even have a dirt track set up inside the complex for a special race. Sports fans will be going crazy with these events and many more that I failed to mention. People will be spending tons of money on tickets, parking, concessions, and memorabilia items. Fans are an important part of the equation when talking about sports. Without fans; it’s hard to support the players and teams. Would you consider yourself a fan of the Colts, Pacers, or Indians? Do you have a favorite driver to cheer on this weekend? Will you be attending a sporting event this weekend or will you be glued to the television? Are you a fan of Jesus Christ? That seems like a no brainer for some of us, but that’s a legitimate question that must be asked. Chair 1 for Dann Spader is for the fan of Christianity. Jesus invited his first admires to come and see. Andrew and Philip would become disciples later, but first they were fans of Jesus. They wanted to see what the rabbi was up to and why John was calling him the Lamb of God. This Sunday morning, we are going to look at what it means to be a fan of Jesus Christ. Our scripture text will have us look at those first encounters for Andrew and Philip. I want to invite you to come and see what chair one has to offer. Invite someone to come and see where we are at in our spiritual journey with the Lord. We love fans here at Cumberland.
