June Sermon Series Developing Patience From Genesis

When it comes to patience, would you score high or low? I’ll admit that there are times when it is easy for me to lose my patience with people. Normally, it is when I get tired after several stressful days that my tolerance level drops. Waiting for God to come through on a promise has been a real struggle at times. I cannot even begin to imagine what it would have been like for Abraham and Sarah as they waited for God to bring a child into their life. Twenty-five years of waiting for Sarah to get pregnant had to be extremely painful. During the month of June we will look at some passages of scripture that deal with the topic of developing patience. This is one of the fruit of the Spirit that Paul says gets produced by those walking in step with the Lord.

Developing patience with others can drive us crazy if we try to do it on our own. We need the help of the Holy Spirit. This morning, we are going to look at another story from the life of Abraham. In our text today, Abraham will have to rescue his nephew Lot.

    Just Wait
The apostle Paul gives a list of fruit produced by our walking in step with the Holy Spirit. In the midst of this list we find the word "patience" which means long tempered. This morning, we will begin our look at the Old Testament character, Abraham. He would have to wait 25 years for God's promise to be fulfilled. Can we wait that long today?

    Stopping the Devil
At the end of the day, all of us are looking for peace in our lives. True peace can only come when we are right with the Lord. Eternal peace comes through our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We have an incredible gift to share with others thanks to Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

    Stopping the Violence
Almost every day we hear another tragic story of someone who has lost their life due to the violence on our streets. The apostle Paul told the church at Rome to do everything within their powers to live in peace with others. What can we do as a congregation to help stop the violence that appears to be creeping into our community?

    Stopping the Turmoil
Mother's Day is a time for our moms to enjoy some peace and quiet. Unfortunately that is not always possible in our world today. Far too many individuals are dealing with some sort of mental health issue. This morning, we will begin our look at the third piece of fruit produced by the Holy Spirit according to Paul in Galatians chapter five.

The E-letter for September 6th

Here’s some church news for you that might impact your life ________________________________________ This week’s message: “Come and See” from John 1:35-42 This is a huge weekend for Indianapolis when it comes to sports. Friday night is all about the high school football games taking place throughout the state. Saturday means college football games with thousands of fans gathering in stadiums to cheer on their team. Sunday the Colts kick off their season with a game against the Bengals from Cincinnati. This weekend Indianapolis is hosting racing fans from across the country who will pour into the Speedway to watch several NASCAR races. They even have a dirt track set up inside the complex for a special race. Sports fans will be going crazy with these events and many more that I failed to mention. People will be spending tons of money on tickets, parking, concessions, and memorabilia items. Fans are an important part of the equation when talking about sports. Without fans; it’s hard to support the players and teams. Would you consider yourself a fan of the Colts, Pacers, or Indians? Do you have a favorite driver to cheer on this weekend? Will you be attending a sporting event this weekend or will you be glued to the television? Are you a fan of Jesus Christ? That seems like a no brainer for some of us, but that’s a legitimate question that must be asked. Chair 1 for Dann Spader is for the fan of Christianity. Jesus invited his first admires to come and see. Andrew and Philip would become disciples later, but first they were fans of Jesus. They wanted to see what the rabbi was up to and why John was calling him the Lamb of God. This Sunday morning, we are going to look at what it means to be a fan of Jesus Christ. Our scripture text will have us look at those first encounters for Andrew and Philip. I want to invite you to come and see what chair one has to offer. Invite someone to come and see where we are at in our spiritual journey with the Lord. We love fans here at Cumberland.
