July Sermon Series

Exhibiting Kindness

From the Psalms

While doing some research for this series of messages, I came across a picture that contained just two words.  Those two words were: “Choose Kindness.”  The statement that picture made hit a nerve with me.  Kindness is a choice.  How we respond to someone is our choice.  We can respond with a kind statement or we can offer them a harsh rebuttal.  We can choose to exhibit gentleness or we can treat them harshly.  As we look to produce the nine different fruits of the Spirit in our lives, kindness might be one of those that we overlook.  Let’s come around God’s table during the month of July and discover what Paul had in mind when he included this fruit there in Galatians chapter five.

The Art of Forgiving
Psalm 51:1-6: King David messed up royally one night when he took a walk on top of his palace walls. Nearly a year later he would be confronted with his actions. In Psalm 51, we find David pleading before God asking for mercy. God would forgive David of his sins. We can show kindness to others through the forgiveness we offer them.

Abraham and Sarah had to wait 25 years for the promise of God to come true. Can you imagine the moment that Sarah first held that child in her arms? Waiting for something to happen or for someone to show up can be a real challenge, but the rewards are often worth the wait. As we wrap up this series today, let's reflect upon the story of Abraham and Sarah.

"Just Listen". The fourth message in a series focusing on the gift of "Patience" presented by our guest speaker - Tom Richason.  Tom used the story of patience expected of Abram (Abraham) in Genesis 17 talking about the significance of New Names, A New Sign, & A Reminder of God's Promises in verses 3 through 22.

Developing patience with others can drive us crazy if we try to do it on our own. We need the help of the Holy Spirit. This morning, we are going to look at another story from the life of Abraham. In our text today, Abraham will have to rescue his nephew Lot.

The apostle Paul gives a list of fruit produced by our walking in step with the Holy Spirit. In the midst of this list we find the word "patience" which means long tempered. This morning, we will begin our look at the Old Testament character, Abraham. He would have to wait 25 years for God's promise to be fulfilled. Can we wait that long today?

The E-letter for September 6th

Here’s some church news for you that might impact your life ________________________________________ This week’s message: “Come and See” from John 1:35-42 This is a huge weekend for Indianapolis when it comes to sports. Friday night is all about the high school football games taking place throughout the state. Saturday means college football games with thousands of fans gathering in stadiums to cheer on their team. Sunday the Colts kick off their season with a game against the Bengals from Cincinnati. This weekend Indianapolis is hosting racing fans from across the country who will pour into the Speedway to watch several NASCAR races. They even have a dirt track set up inside the complex for a special race. Sports fans will be going crazy with these events and many more that I failed to mention. People will be spending tons of money on tickets, parking, concessions, and memorabilia items. Fans are an important part of the equation when talking about sports. Without fans; it’s hard to support the players and teams. Would you consider yourself a fan of the Colts, Pacers, or Indians? Do you have a favorite driver to cheer on this weekend? Will you be attending a sporting event this weekend or will you be glued to the television? Are you a fan of Jesus Christ? That seems like a no brainer for some of us, but that’s a legitimate question that must be asked. Chair 1 for Dann Spader is for the fan of Christianity. Jesus invited his first admires to come and see. Andrew and Philip would become disciples later, but first they were fans of Jesus. They wanted to see what the rabbi was up to and why John was calling him the Lamb of God. This Sunday morning, we are going to look at what it means to be a fan of Jesus Christ. Our scripture text will have us look at those first encounters for Andrew and Philip. I want to invite you to come and see what chair one has to offer. Invite someone to come and see where we are at in our spiritual journey with the Lord. We love fans here at Cumberland.
